Novelist Annie (AJ) DeFoe Freeman writes as  Birdie Hawks and is a member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) and Two Rivers Romance Authors (TRRA) writing group, Des Moines, Iowa.

She  has been married 32 years and is 60 years old.   Birdie was born and raised in Iowa to a middle class family of 5.  She has two older brothers who ensured she’d be a tomboy. She grew up fishing, swimming, target practicing and even shot a rabbit (once). Being too much of an animal lover she never hunted again but hiked the woods enjoying nature. Loves to horse back ride, play softball, bowl, going to baseball and football games and enjoys riding motorcycles.

In the late 70′s she joined the Iowa Army National Guard and in the early 80′s became a Federal technician with the Iowa National Guard, Camp Dodge, Johnston, Iowa. In the early 90′s, served 6 years as a reserve Police officer.

After 24 years she retired from the Guard, taking a couple years off work. After which, she got a part-time admin/clerical job. During her 3-year tenure, she mentally began a journey into the world of writing.

Her love is writing. Her favorite thing to do is write. She has 1 completed ms (manuscript), No Regrets, No Doubts; a 2nd ms in the works and the 3rd once pictured in her thoughts is now becoming reality; several more are cruising through her mind as we speak.

Author Birdie Hawks is here. Writer of Contemporary Women’s novels. There is more to life than scrubbing floors or dishes.

She delves not only into sex with hunkey men, but intrique and action.  She loves writing and talking about writing. Are you a beginner? Just thinking about writing. Think your manuscript is finnished and you want to submit it to someone…let’s talk.

Words of the day: keep writing.  She says the best thing she did was join RWA and a local writers group.

Check her out on facebook. Oh, and she hates wearing bras.

Birdie is woman, hear her roar!
